Field Modification of S-Cam Service Brake Chamber Piston Rods
Form #: EB 86-001
(Download only at this time)
ABC Brakes product warranty will be voided for any S-Cam Service Chamber or Combination Spring Brake Assembly which has been field modified by having additional and/or new threads cut or machined on the piston rod.
Guidelines for Mounting Spring Brakes to Brackets (with Vertical or Horizontal Bolt Hole Locations)
Form #: EB 86-002
(Download only at this time)
Spring brake mounting brackets are designed with the mounting bolt holes in a vertical line relative to the axle or in a horizontal line or slightly angles from horizontal relative to the axle. It is imperative that a spring brake with a specific non-pressure chamber (mounting plate) be mounted to the right bracket.

Manual Release Bolt Magnum MB-T and MG-T Piston Type Brakes Method of Operation
Form #: EB 91-005
(Download only at this time)
The ABC Magnum Spring Brake release bolt operates differently than the double diaphragm release bolt. When the release bolt is installed and tightened down, spring force is transmitted through the spring piston, to the release bolt, to the pushrod, and on to the service piston rod to provide parking brake force.
Type 24 Long Stroke Diaphragms
Form #: EB 91-006
(Download only at this time)
There has been some confusion about part numbers for the Type 24 long stroke diaphragm. Any ABC part number 8017_41 diaphragm can be used in a type 24 long stroke (2.50 inch) brake actuator. The fifth digit of the number is used for ABC’s internal tracking and should not concern the customer.
Brakes Camshaft Rotation Recommendation
Form #: EB 93-002
(Download only at this time)
It is recommended that service brake chambers, service and spring brake chambers be installed on vehicle axles so that the rotation of the brake camshaft is in the same direction as the rotation of the wheel and drum in forward vehicle travel.
Causes of Non-Pressure Chamber Failures and Recommended Corrective Action
Form #: EB 96-002
(Download only at this time)
Some severe service type vehicles can cause non-pressure chamber (mounting plate) failures. Usually these failures result in cracks that originate at one of the mounting bolts and propagates towards the outside diameter. If left undetected, the mounting bolt may eventually pull loose from the steel stamped housing. This bulletin lists some of the causes of a failure and recommended corrective action.
Breather Tube Extension Procedure
Form #: EB 96-004
(Download only at this time)
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a procedure to add a tube section to lengthen a breather tube in the field when the single/piggyback is rotated to reposition the ports relative to the non-pressure chamber housing.
Rebuilt Air Brake Actuators for Trucks/Tractors, Buses & Trailers
Form #: EB 96-005
(Download only at this time)
ABC Brakes does not rebuild or condone the use of rebuilt air brake actuators. Air brake actuators are a very important safety device because they actuate the foundation brakes and also perform vital parking and emergency brake functions. They operate in the worst possible environment and under the most severe conditions. It is not possible to determine the condition and remaining life in the critical components reused in rebuilt actuators, such as the nonpressure housing, flange case (center section), power spring or pushrod seals, which are reconditioned parts that are cleaned up and/or repainted.
Installation and Location Instructions for Long Stroke Tag on Single/Piggyback Units

Mixing Standard & Long Stroke Chambers
Form #: EB 02-002
(Download only at this time)
ABC Brakes recommends replacing chambers with the same stroke rating across an axle. When servicing a truck/trailer equipped with either standard stroke or long stroke chambers, it is crucial that replacement of the chambers be like for like. For example: if a 3-inch stroke chamber is to replace a 2.5-inch stroke chamber, both chambers on that axle must be upgraded to 3-inch chambers.
ABC Brakes Actuators Manufactured with Neoprene Diaphragms
Form #: EB 03-001
(Download only at this time)
ABC Brakes manufactures a limited line of service chambers and spring brakes with “Neoprene” diaphragms for severe service applications where petroleum saturated contaminants may enter the air system and come into contact with the diaphragms.
Field Replacement of ABC Brakes Chambers Equipped with Welded Yokes
Form #: EB 03-002
(Download only at this time)
Every day, more and more vehicles are being manufactured with 3-Inch “long stroke” spring brakes and service chambers with the yoke “welded” to the service push rod. Because the “welded” yoke is permanently attached to the push-rod, it is virtually impossible to remove and re-use it.

Type 12 Diaphragms - S-Cam & Wedge Installations
Form #: EB 04-001
(Download only at this time)
ABC Brakes offers two different Type 12 Diaphragms for aftermarket replacement, P/N 8017112 and P/N 8017312. While these diaphragms are similar in diameter, composition, etc., they are distinctly different in height, and mixing them may result in reduction of the chamber’s stroke.

J-Series Brake Head Movement - In the Roll Area
Form #: EB 06-005
(Download only at this time)
The roll process for the J-series Spring Brake design displaces a circumferential strip of head material into the securing groove in the flange case by a cold forming operation. The inward radial deformation of the head material, which occurs during the roll process, imparts residual stresses into the head material comparable to similar cold forming operations.

Form #: EB 19-005
(Download only at this time)
This bulletin provides a recommendation for inspection and service of ABC Brake’s brake actuator products which may have been exposed to flood water conditions or submersion in water. Most ABC brake actuators are not designed for use while submerged in water. Care must be taken to ensure brake actuators which may have been exposed to water submersion are safe for use prior to operating the vehicle. ABC Brakes offers a specific vented configuration for select brake actuator models which allows for operation during water fording situations. This is a specific configuration which must be requested and is not commonly used with on road applications.
